Almost a Year of Proudly Serving San Tan Valley
Quickly approaching its one-year anniversary, Sweetie Peaz is truly a labor of love for owner Stacey Tardif and her husband, Daniel. The realization of a long-held dream, Stacey began seriously working on the Sweetie Peaz concept in the fall of 2010. In six short months of consistently hard work and planning (she was also working in corporate property management at the time) Stacey opened her doors and began her whirl-wind first year as a small business owner.
A Family Business
You can frequently see Stacey or Daniel working in the shop, along with their staff of young employees. While being very hands-on with her business, Stacey also makes sure she puts family first, and works hard on keeping regular family time a priority. She is also extremely invested in the well-being of her employees–it is not uncommon to see her watching over them as they make their way back to their vehicles upon leaving work in the evening.
Getting it Just Right
Stacey’s personal touches can be felt in every aspect of Sweetie Peaz, right down to the signature green spoon (“with the word “PEA” in our name, green just seemed appropriate!”) Tardif personally designed everything–from the layout of the shop to the colors and decor. She chose the pink and green color scheme to portray the bright, cheery feel she desired. She also designed the logo and signage–and she chose the gentle waves and curves that grace the walls and counter areas in the store. Sweetie Peaz is named after the Tardif’s teenaged daughter, whom Tardif has always affectionately called her “Sweetie Pea.”
Customer Experience is Priority #1
Stacey takes pride in keeping an impeccably clean shop as well as making every visit to Sweetie Peaz a great customer experience. Every customer is greeted upon entering the store and thanked when leaving the store. This level of hospitality is of utmost importance to the Tardifs.
Community Service
Equally important to Tardif is her community. She feels very strongly about giving back to her fellow San Tan Valley residents. This is evident by the number of charitable activities Tardif and Sweetie Peaz have been a part of in the relatively short 10 months since its door opened.
Sweetie Peaz awards gift certificates to students of the month in both the Combs and Florence school districts. Tardif also participates in fundraisers and charity drives. Some of the causes Sweetie Peaz has contributed to so far include breast cancer awareness, Compassion Queen Creek, lymphoma awareness, Light the Night, juvenile diabetes awareness and more. They also sponsor local baseball and soccer teams and are planning an upcoming fundraiser to benefit MADD. For more information on Sweetie Peaz philanthropic activities, you can check out their Facebook page.
But what about the yogurt?
Well, I can certify that it is delicious. The flavors I’ve tried have a very creamy texture and a clean taste. The yogurts are on the sweeter side and have an ice-cream like quality. In fact, my kids can’t tell that they’re eating yogurt rather than ice cream. And of course the toppings add even more fun and flavor to the occasion. Current flavors can be found on Sweetie Peaz‘ Facebook page–check the “Info” tab. On Facebook, customers also have the opportunity to weigh in and vote on upcoming flavors, as well as keep abreast of Sweetie Peaz’ news and events.
The Technical Details
Sweetie Peaz boasts five soft-serve machines, each of which dispenses two flavors, plus can swirl those two flavors together. Each day they offer an assortment of flavors, which are rotated approximately monthly, and they always have a no-sugar added option, fat-free option, dairy-free option and even a gluten-free option. Nutritional information is available upon request as well.
Yogurt and toppings are self-serve at Sweetie Peaz, which is fun for kids and adults alike. Owner Stacey Tardif says, “The self-serve format seemed to be the industry trend and I really loved the idea of being able to create as much or as little dessert as each customer chose. Really puts the customer in the driver’s seat in creating their one of a kind dessert!” Your finished confection is priced by weight (minus the weight of your cup). And Sweetie Peaz will even keep track of your purchases for you and reward you with a $5 credit for every ten visits you make!
With over fifty toppings available, including an array of fresh fruits, syrups, cookies and more candy than any kid could wish for…….Sweetie Peaz allows for endless taste combinations.
